This job provides an opportunity to make a positive contribution to safeguarding the special character and appearance of the New Town and Garden City together with the rural areas and villages within the borough of Welwyn & Hatfield.  This is a key role providing a customer-focused service to internal and external customers, giving technical and professional advice and guidance, as well as dealing with and determining a wide range of applications and planning appeals. In addition, you will be managing, developing and supporting a small team of planning officers in their day-to-day work.

You will have good communication and negotiation skills and be able to demonstrate methodical and well-organised working. It is essential that you can understand and interpret technical drawings and plans and are able to drive. Ideally, you will have some experience in a development management, planning or enforcement environment.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential in this post.
