This role will provide the day to day investigative function of the Development Compliance Team; concentrating on alleged breaches of planning control. 

This role will provide the opportunity of working with varying issues, both in the office and on site where you will need to demonstrate considerable initiative and professional judgement. 

Working closely with Planning Officers you will help to ensure that development is carried out in accordance with approved plans and consider appropriate action when development takes place without the necessary planning permission. 

You will also be required to collect evidence for prosecution, serve enforcement and related notices and present evidence at Public Inquiries, Hearings or appear in Court as a witness where necessary. 

For this post you will have a recognised planning qualification and/or significant knowledge and experience of working in a development management function or planning enforcement role. Your ability to think creatively and handle tough situations with tact and diplomacy, especially where emotions sometimes run high, will be key to the achievement and challenge of this job. 

The Development Compliance Team investigate alleged breaches of planning control across the City through the collection and collation of evidence together with the examination, processing and evaluation of complaints. Our work load is interesting and varied, offering an opportunity for the right candidate to make a positive contribution to the development of Manchester. 

The Council has a number of IT systems and secure email accounts that are part of the Government's Public Services Network (PSN). In 2014, the Cabinet Office introduced a minimum level of security screening for all staff that have access to any IT systems or gcsx email account which form part of the Public Services Network. This security screening is called the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). This check involves verification of identity; nationality and immigration status; employment history (past 3 years) and criminal record.
