Assistant Planner | Birmingham | 12 months + exp. | Future equity | Private Medical Insurance
A junior level planner is required to join a growing consultancy in central Birmingham. You won't feel confined by the stuffiness of the corporate world here - this company pride themselves on being sociable, friendly, ambitious and modern in their working practices. And with a client list brimming with household names, there are few, if any, better planning consultancies to work for right now!
You will hold an RTPI accredited degree, be in a position to become chartered and have approximately 1-3 years' experience in a Town Planning environment (minimum 6 months formal employment or 12 months voluntary), some of which may have been gained through industry placements whilst studying. Some hands-on experience of the planning applications process, either in the private or public sector, is the key expectation, as you will be fully supported and mentored by the highly experienced Director but you should have enough experience to work on your own initiative where required.
The company and the role:
Established circa 7 years ago by a small team of Directors keen to move away from corporate life and establish a company offering a more personalised service to clients, the company now has 3 active offices and a close knit team with ambitions to grow in numbers as their client base rapidly expands. They deliver projects across a wide range of sectors with particular expertise in commercial developments and retail, residential developments and office to residential conversions. They have a number of high profile clients but also work with individuals, small developers and regional housebuilders. With plans to bring 2 new members of staff into their Birmingham team and one senior level planner into their London team, things are moving in a steep upward trajectory so it is a great time to join. In addition, the company are keen to share their successes in the form of equity shares as they believe in the power of employee ownership to engage and reward their staff. The Birmingham team currently consists of 3 professional staff - a Director, a Senior Planner and a Graduate Planner, and there are plans to bring in both this post at Planner level and an Associate level planner too. You will be fully supported and mentored through your RTPI accreditation and excellent CPD will be offered to ensure ongoing professional development.
As a Planner in this consultancy, you will be exposed to a wide variety of projects of all scales across a range of sectors. Due to the small and cohesive nature of the team, you will gain exposure to the full project life cycle, including client contact, which is often not the case in larger companies. You will attend site visits, client meetings, committee hearings and appeals where relevant, as well as being a key member of the technical delivery team. Every day will be different and your workload diverse, ensuring you gain a wide knowledge base alongside utilising and further developing your consultancy skills.
Rewards and Benefits:
This company likes to keep their staff happy! In addition to the opportunity to gain equity shares in the business, you will receive a generous basic salary of £25k - £35k DOE, flexible holiday allowance (they do not have a strict policy on holidays - so long as you are meeting your targets, you can take time off!), a solid company pension scheme, private healthcare, childcare vouchers, generous Christmas bonuses, additional bonuses for generating fee income and the flexibility to work from home as required.
This would be an ideal step up for someone who is ready to move on from their first position in Town Planning. You will be joining a friendly, ambitious and sociable company who value staff days out and engaging in charity events as much as they value hard work.
