Job Details

Are you a Graduate or Assistant Town Planner with some industry experience under your belt (consultancy, local authority or developer)?

Would you like to work for a regional housebuilder which is going places?

Do you enjoy working as part of a small, close knit team?

Alongside pushing applications through, would you like a position which will allow you to utilise and develop your planning policy knowledge (eg. 5-year housing land supply, affordables, CIL etc.), project management, site and project feasibility and negotiating skills?

Do you have a planning qualification which makes you eligible for RTPI chartership?

If this sounds like you, then you may be interested in applying for this exciting new position created due to organic growth following a considerable pipeline of projects.

We are seeking a suitably qualified Assistant Town Planner or Town Planner on behalf of our client – a regional housebuilder located close to the M25 / M23 junction. An established and successful house builder in the south of England, they focus on quality over quantity, building small / medium scale residential and mixed-use schemes from luxury detached residences through to quality city centre apartments (including in London) and affordable family homes. They deliver superior quality developments and as such, expect high standards from their staff who in return are well rewarded for their efforts and commitment.

Whilst you may have only just completed your RTPI-accredited course, it is important that you have gained some experience in the planning sector, perhaps through a year in industry or voluntary/paid work. Alternatively, you may already be working as a Planner in your first position and are seeking a change or a move across to client side.

Your role will largely be to support applications through the planning process, from keeping up to date 5 year housing supply records, initial project research, site appraisals, writing planning statements and supporting statements, completing application forms, communicating with planning officers and external consultants, attending committee and assisting with appeals. You will also have the opportunity to assist on feasibility studies, input into layout schemes alongside appointed architects, help to negotiate affordable housing, S106 and CIL contribution elements, and learn how to calculate financial viability. In addition, there will be the opportunity to learn the land acquisition process, allowing you to become a land and planning specialist should this be of interest.

About you:

  • Assistant / Graduate Town Planner or Town Planner with up to 2 years' experience;
  • RTPI accredited degree, with ability to become chartered;
  • Desire to live in Surrey or far southern outskirts of London (eg. Croydon, Sutton, Bromley)
  • Able to comfortably commute to Redhill area, with a full driving licence and access to a car;
  • Up-to-date policy knowledge and a strong desire to learn the client side land and planning process;
  • Interest in working on residential-focused schemes;
  • High professional standards and a pro-active approach.

In return for your hard work and professionalism you will receive a competitive basic salary, pension and bonuses. Remuneration is expected to sit around £24k - £32k DOE. You must have a UK driving licence and access to a car, but you will be paid mileage at HMRC rates for all business related travel.

This level of this position would be well suited to an ambitious Planner with 6 months - 2 years’ experience. Applications from relocaters are welcomed.
