To undertake a systematic and sustained approach to planning enforcement against unauthorised development.  This includes following the necessary procedures, undertaking site visits where necessary, maintaining the required IT records, preparing appropriate letters and reports and serving the relevant Notices if necessary.

To work closely with the Assistant Enforcement Officer and other services within the Council, including STG, Housing, Licensing, Council Tax, Environment Health, Community Safety and legal to ensure a corporate approach to enforcement actions.

To work with the Business Development Manager to ensure that the IT systems are maintained enabling performance reports to be produced and to ensure the efficient and effective use of IT in the enforcement process.

To work with planning officers and legal where necessary to defend appeals against notices and to attend and give evidence in court in relation to prosecution proceedings.

To act as lead officer on complex and sensitive planning enforcement cases working in partnership with internal and external agencies including legal, the Police and Environment Agency.

Essential Qualifications

• GCSE standard in English  

• A level in Geography or similar subject related to planning

• Degree in planning related subject
