My Northamptonshire-based client is seeking an experienced and MRTPI chartered Planning Consultant from a private sector or local authority (development control) background to deliver a hands-on technical and commercial role within the existing team.

Joining a team of Town Planners (9 in total), Architectural Technicians, Designers, Surveyors and other consultants, the business provides a full planning and development service across a wide range of sectors and project scales in urban and rural settings.

The successful applicant would be involved in the following activities:

  • Researching planning policies and constraints;
  • Preparing detailed planning policy and design statements;
  • Site visits and land appraisals;
  • Preparation and submission of planning application forms and associated documents;
  • Attending client and council meetings;
  • Delivering planning services to existing and new clients Increasing our planning presence in Northamptonshire area and surrounding counties;
  • Developing new areas of planning work eg. commercial, retail and residential;
  • Identifying and delivering marketing opportunities for the planning service within the area.

 Your background could be in the public or private sector working in any area(s) of planning, but it is essential that you are commercially minded, an out-of-the-box thinker and have a broad and up to date knowledge of the UK planning system.

To be suitable for the position, you must:

  • Be experienced in the production and management of small to large scale planning applications within a development control or consultancy environment;
  • Be a full member of the RTPI with some post qualification experience;
  • Understand how a commercial environment operates and how you can add value to a business through your own proactive work;
  • Have a “can do” attitude, be of strong character, confident and a good networker;
  • Be flexible and adaptable to client needs.

In addition to a competitive basic salary DOE, you will also receive discretionary bonus payments and a profit share scheme, NEST pension, healthcare cashplan (and optional full private healthcare on a contributory basis), and 23 days holiday + a day off for your birthday and bank holidays. A full driving licence and access to a car is essential and all business mileage will be paid at HMRC rates.
