Situated in West Hertfordshire, the Borough of Dacorum is composed of the main towns of Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Tring, with large areas of Green Belt and Outstanding Natural Beauty, historic settlements and buildings.

We are seeking to appoint a Lead Planning Officer with extensive expertise in all aspects of development management and planning. This key role is part of a team working on varied cases, in both rural and urban locations.  We are looking for a candidate with a proven ability to problem solve and negotiate positive outcomes, with minimal supervision.

You will be responsible for your own caseload of complex planning applications and related matters and will ensure that they meet the Council’s statutory responsibilities, performance management standards and ensure that the service is accountable and responsive to feedback.

You will have a detailed knowledge of planning issues and the skill to apply it to practical situations. Additionally you will engage with clients and stakeholders on a human level, ensuring that complex or difficult matters are explained in a polite and professional manner. Above all, you will have the drive, commitment and passion to win trust.

The successful candidate will have eligibility for, or be a member of the RTPI with 2 year’s experience gained after their date of election and will have a full driving licence, valid in the UK and access to a vehicle.

Some out of hours working and attendance at evening planning committee meetings will be necessary.
