Job Details
We are seeking a conscientious, diligent and highly motivated planner to join our planning policy team.
There could not be a better time to join us. Wokingham Borough is subject to challenging development pressures that need to be carefully and pro-actively planned for and managed.
We are progressing a considerable amount of planning policy work including updating our local plan to effectively manage longer-term development. We are also working in partnership with our neighbouring local authorities to update the area’s minerals and waste local plan.
Wokingham Borough Council is an ambitious and dynamic organisation with a highly regarded approach to delivering growth. Over 1,700 new homes delivered in the last two years, and over 2,000 currently under construction. The post provides the opportunity to work in a beautiful and much sought after area, and to develop your career in a supportive working environment.
There is no better place to work for those seeking to gain planning policy experience. As part of a team focused on delivering a new local plan, the successful candidate can expect to be working as part of a team on:
- Reviewing, updating and commissioning new technical evidence.
- Reviewing existing policies and drafting updated and new local plan policies through all informal and statutory procedures.
- Engaging elected Councillors, stakeholders and residents.
In addition to the local plan, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the council on place-based strategy including transport, economic prosperity and housing.
The successful candidate needs to be highly capable, enthusiastic and have the ability to work on their own initiative. Practical experience of the planning system is desirable.
We are able to offer a competitive salary, excellent terms and conditions, commitment to professional development and flexible working. Interest from both full-time and part-time applicants is welcomed.
We’d love to hear from you and discuss how you could play a part in strengthening and expanding our planning policy team. For an informal discussion about this post please contact Ian Bellinger (Growth and Delivery Manager) on 0118 974 6231 or Ian Church (Team Manager) on 0118 974 6450.
Closing date for applications: Monday 10 June 2019. Interview date to be confirmed.
