GREAT YARMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL
STRATEGIC PLANNING MANAGER
Salary: Package up to £50,000 per annum
Great Yarmouth Borough Council is an ambitious local authority with big plans for the future and massive opportunities ahead.
With one of the most successful Enterprise Zones in the country, Great Yarmouth is England’s offshore energy hub and Norfolk’s biggest seaside resort at the edge of the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads. The Borough also contains a wealth of historic buildings, the thriving seaside town of Gorleston, attractive rural villages and part of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Council is engaging in a wide range of development and regeneration projects and was chosen in March 2019 as one of five Future Places in England to benefit from place-making advice from a panel of national experts. Significant infrastructure improvements are also coming forward, including a Third River Crossing in Great Yarmouth, which is expected to open in early 2023.
The Council is progressing its Part 2 Local Plan, which is scheduled to reach the Pre-Submission stage in summer 2019. A full review of the Local Plan will be commenced immediately after adoption.
Following the retirement of the current post-holder, a vacancy has arisen for the post of Strategic Planning Manager to lead a team of officers within the wider Planning and Growth Service. The role is challenging, varied and interesting, and there is a real opportunity for you to make your mark. You must be qualified to degree level in Town Planning (or equivalent), and be eligible to be, or already be, a full corporate member of the RTPI. RTPI subscription fees will be paid by the Council.
Please note that a review of the Planning and Growth Service is taking place and there is therefore the possibility of some changes to the role and its responsibilities.
If you wish to have a confidential and informal discussion regarding the position, please contact Adam Nicholls (Head of Planning and Growth) on 01493 846688 or David Glason (Director of Development) on 01493 846643.
Closing date: 23:59 on Monday 6th May 2019. Interviews will be held on 21st May 2019.
