PO7: Starting salary £51,162 rising in annual increments to £54,174 pa incl LW

This post’s salary currently attracts a market supplement of 7% per month.

This post is responsible for leading the council’s planning strategy and policy team to maintain an up-to-date planning policy framework that reflects the council’s priorities for sustainable and inclusive growth. The team has seven members and is one of three teams within the council’s planning policy and place-shaping function.

The planning strategy and policy team leads work on the statutory development plan, neighbourhood planning, supplementary planning documents, infrastructure planning, site-specific briefs and allocations, evidence and monitoring. It engages with the Mayor on reviews of the London Plan and responds to government consultations on national planning policy changes.

The team provides extensive advice and guidance to officers, members and customers on spatial planning policy matters. The team is close to submitting the council’s reviewed local plan for examination and will soon start work on a new site allocations development plan document. The successful candidate will manage the site allocations project, as well as leading and developing the team to complete a varied and busy work programme.

Lambeth is a vibrant borough that attracts significant investment and offers a wide range of challenges and opportunities. Stretching from Waterloo and Vauxhall in the north, through Brixton and Clapham in the centre to Streatham and Norwood in the south, Lambeth covers a cross-section of inner and outer London and has a distinctive mix of places each with its own character and community. Lambeth’s priorities are inclusive growth, reducing inequality and shaping sustainable, high quality places and  neighbourhoods.

The role requires strong skills and considerable experience in planning policy, people management, project management and collaborative working in a local planning authority context.  Candidates should have an RTPI recognised degree-level qualification in Town Planning or equivalent and be eligible for membership of the RTPI. Experience of planning policy work in London is desirable but not essential; all candidates should have a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of existing and emerging planning legislation, policy and guidance relevant to a London borough.

Closing date for receiving the completed application forms is Monday 20 May 2019 at midnight.
