Job Details

Hart District Council works hard to make a positive contribution to the lives of our residents and to ensure that a decent quality of life is extended to everyone in Hart.  We do this by delivering continuous improvement and innovation in delivering the services that matter most to our residents.

The Council holds a set of core values: to be helpful, approachable, responsive, and to take ownership of issues when they arise; and to see them through to the right conclusion for our residents.

We would like to recruit Senior Planning Policy Officers to join our Planning Policy Team.

The primary focus of the role will be to help progress the Hart Local Plan and its constituent DPDs.  The Local Plan Strategy and Sites recently went through the examination hearings and, following a letter from the Inspector, we anticipate a consultation on Main Modifications to the Plan in the Spring.  Other tasks include SPDs, monitoring and review. Reporting to the Planning Policy Manager the successful candidates will take a lead role in driving these initiatives forward to deliver up to date planning policies for Hart.

You will be able to demonstrate: excellent communication and negotiation skills; enthusiasm; self-motivation; sound judgement; an ability to prioritise work under pressure; a proactive approach to problem solving and tackling challenges; excellent organisational skills; a commitment to excellence in customer care; and an ability to identify and act on opportunities to improve service delivery.  The opportunity to manage junior staff will be considered for the right candidate.

Applicants applying for the role should hold a professional qualification (RTPI) or be studying for one, and have up to date practical knowledge and experience of applying national planning legislation and policy.  Experience of local plan examinations and/or planning appeals would be highly desirable.  A full driving license is essential.

Havant District Council offers: a competitive salary; an essential car allowance; free car parking; a generous leave entitlement; flexible working; and the pleasure of working within a picturesque corner of Hampshire.

Company

Planning is firmly at the heart of the Council’s vision to 2040 and we’re consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in the UK.

We're a small local authority with big ambition. We want to do things bigger, bolder, and better than we have before. Our Council is small enough for you to be able to see the direct impact and influence you can have through your day-to-day work and know the names of your colleagues. You will also notice that you get to see the faces of our Senior Leadership and Chief Executives on a regular basis.

At Hart, we work together to shape the environment for the people in our district and we listen to suggestions and contributions from staff at all levels to improve the way we do this.

We’re the place to grow your planning career, come and see for yourself how we empower and develop our staff. The work we have at Hart is diverse and challenging, you can develop your skills and work as part of a friendly and committed team.
