Senior/Principal Planner OCC9250

Employer: Oxfordshire County Council

Location: Speedwell House, Oxford

Salary: £30,507 - £48,526 per annum (dependant on experience and line management responsibilities)

Contract type: Temporary until 31.05.2021

Hours per week: 37hrs (part time hours would be considered)

This is an exciting and ground-breaking opportunity to be part of a brand new team tasked with delivering a Joint Statutory Spatial Plan for the long-term future of Oxfordshire. This will be the first of its kind and will set the vision for the next generation and beyond.

Oxfordshire is a globally renowned region with one of the strongest economies in the UK, home to 1,500 high tech firms and the number one ranked university in the world.  There are plans to build an additional 100,000 homes by 2031. The area also has significant built heritage assets and three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty which attract visitors from across the world. All these assets make it a very exciting and cosmopolitan place to live, work, invest and visit.

These are exciting times in Oxfordshire. Central Government has recognised the potential of Oxfordshire with the signing of a Housing and Growth Deal with the six local authorities and the Local Enterprise Partnership which covers Oxfordshire. This secures at least £215m of Government investment for new homes and infrastructure across the County.

A key part of the Housing and Growth Deal is the production of the Oxfordshire Plan 2050 (www.oxfordshire.gov.uk [oxfordshire.gov.uk]). The Oxfordshire Plan will consider quality of life and place-making issues to ensure planned growth is sustainable, coherent and sensitive to the area. It will identify the overall quantum of housing and economic growth to be planned for to 2050, their distribution across the county and the strategic infrastructure necessary to deliver the Spatial Strategy.

The Oxfordshire Plan will set the strategic planning context within which future Local Plans will sit. It will link to a new 2050 Transport Vision and a Local Industrial Strategy. We are at an early stage in the project but have an ambitious programme and timetable.

There is not a moment to lose – come and join the team to deliver the plan for Oxfordshire.
