Southend-on-Sea Borough Council have an annual spend of £130 million per year and a large number of exciting projects in the pipeline, Southend Borough Council are looking for a Senior Planner to join their successful Development Control Team. Southend on Sea is only 40 minutes from the City of London and has two mainline railway stations. Property prices, and rental costs, are far lower than they are in London, and we enjoy seven miles of beaches, and a fantastic International airport.

Your new role 

Your role will be processing planning related applications and appeals, including those for the most complex major developments. You will also be assisting junior members of staff with their applications and development. You will be dealing with a range of internal and external customers being able to provide them with pre-application advice and guidance. Due to the nature of the role you will also be conducting site visits and attending Development Control committee meetings.

What you'll need to succeed 

To succeed in this position you will need to have an in-depth knowledge of planning polices and legislation and putting this into practice dealing with major and complex planning applications. You will need to have a degree in either town or urban planning, geography or similar and membership to RTPI is desirable. You will need to be able to manage your own work load to deadlines and have a full driving licence. Experience of managing and supervising staff is desirable.

This is a permanent job, paying £37,849 - £48,662 (pa) depending on experience plus excellent benefits.
