The opportunity

We are looking for an ambitious Development Manager or Team leader looking for that next step for an ambitious Authority in Essex who are set to deliver a minimum of 90,000 new homes as part of a Joint Strategic Plan with 7,800 homes would needing to be built in their jurisdiction. Rochford is based in the ‘Green Gateway to Essex’ situated just 40 miles from Central London and 20 miles from Chelmsford. You will find plenty of character, miles of unspoilt coastline and attractive countryside. Living and working in Rochford is hard to beat!

 

The job role

A newly created role has arisen for a Planning Manager to head up our busy Development Management Team. This exciting opportunity will enable the right person to come in and drive forward Development Management, shaping the future of the team.

You will manage our existing experienced team (delivering Development Management and Planning Enforcement functions for the Rochford District) allocating workload in relation to planning applications of all types, together with negotiations, correspondence, appeal and informal enquiries from the public and developers.

You will report in to the Assistant Director to drive forward the improvement and income generation of the planning service, providing pre-application advice and guidance to internal and external customers, managing the processing of the most complex planning related applications, and work on a number of major proposals in an expanding service.

You will need an in-depth knowledge of planning policies and legislation as well as experience of managing and developing staff required, a good understanding of development viability issues, experience of dealing with major and complex planning applications.

The Person

You will have a Proven track record of success in Development Management  and have excellent leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate individuals and teams towards service and organisational success.

You will be a Member of the RTPI (or have ability to join without further qualification) and have thorough knowledge and understanding of key issues and legislation relating to Development Management.

Above all else you will have the ambition, drive and need to succeed to deliver on our projects.
