Principal Planning Officer - South East



Based in the South East, this Local Authority seeks the help of a Senior/Principal Planning Officer for 6-12 months...



About the Role
You will be required to take on a ranged caseload of major and complex development proposals involving political, ecological, social and geographical pressures (i.e. Nimbyism, Conservation Areas, Listed Buildings Consent, Green Belt matters etc.). This will involve the preparation of planning briefs, the presentation of reports at Committee, negotiating S106 agreements and mentoring 2 members of staff (Planning Officer and Planning Assistant).

The temporary contract will be for an initial 6-12 months, however, further extension may be likely dependent on performance and success of perm recruitment - previous contracts have been known to run beyond 12 months.

The Successful Candidate

You will ideally have Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), be qualified to degree level in Town Planning or a relevant discipline and have proficiency in dealing with major and complex development proposals.

You will have a desire to upkeep excellent knowledge of the planning process, legislation and policies (including S106 and Environmental Impact Assessments) and have demonstrated an ability to effectively prioritise work-loads and manage projects within timescales.

It is essential that you hold a valid UK driving licence in order to conduct site visits and business-related mileage shall be expensed at £0.45 per mile. Pool cars are available.



About you

You will ideally be eligible for Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and have significant experience (5+ years) working on similar projects in a Development Management context within Local Authority.

Previous management or mentoring experience is desired, but not essential.
