As the gateway to South Wales, the city of Newport is a centre of regeneration. Newport has Wales' only Green Belt, beautiful rolling countryside, extensive areas of ecological value including European designations and a Wetlands Reserve. The city boasts a rich cultural history, including Roman Caerleon, numerous Conservation Areas, an abundance of listed buildings including Tredegar House and the iconic transporter bridge. The new Friars Walk shopping centre has helped enhance the shopping centre and the Council continues to focus on regenerating the city.
The city has easy access to the Brecon Beacons National Park to the north and the beaches of the South Wales coastline. Newport has excellent transport links including access onto the M4. The recent removal of the Severn bridge tolls is expected to result in significant economic benefits to the city and wider region.
We are looking to appoint a Planning Enforcement Officer within our Development Management Team. The enforcement team in Newport is rated 'good' by Welsh Government, dealing with 93.8% of cases within target. To help us meet the challenges of growth and help protect our built and natural environment, we are looking for a dedicated individual who can effectively investigate instances of unauthorised development and ensure that development proceeds in compliance with approved plans and planning conditions. The post offers an opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of planning enforcement work that would provide a very good grounding for Development Management.
The post holder would be based in the Civic Offices, a listed building, which is located within a 10- minute walk of the town centre and the railway station.
Candidates must either hold a recognised qualification in Town Planning (or a related discipline) to a minimum level of HND, HNC or NVQ Level 4 or alternatively, applicants with an equivalent combination of knowledge and several years experience of planning in practice will be considered.
The Council offers flexible working arrangements including flexi-time together with a generous leave allowance including an additional annual leave scheme.
An ability to drive and access to a car to undertake site visits is highly desirable.
Please note we do not accept CV's.
