Job Details

Eastleigh Borough Council is a high-performing, ambitious and progressive council and we are recognised for our innovation and achievements, whilst delivering high-quality service to our customers and the community.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand our Planning Enforcement Team and we are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Enforcement Officer to work within our busy Development Management Team. This is a permanent, full-time post.

You will be responsible for investigating potential breaches of planning control, using your own strong communication and negotiation skills to resolve issues swiftly and, if necessary, use a suite of enforcement tools to remedy breaches whilst working closely with Development Management and Legal officers. Your varied caseload will be reflective of the urban and rural character of the Borough and you will be required to undertake site inspections, interview members of the public and landowners, and formalise recommendations to the Housing and Development Lead Specialist, as well as draft reports and formal notices and deal with appeals. Your workload will include proactive monitoring of major development sites and providing advice to officers within the Locality Team.

Candidates must have strong enforcement knowledge and experience and be conversant with reading and interpreting technical drawings and planning policies.  You will need to be pro-active and organised with strong communication skills and the ability to prioritise a demanding but interesting caseload.

This is your chance to work within a Council that has set Planning Enforcement as one of its key objectives, and therefore ensures this service is delivered to high standards. We are keen to support and invest in our staff to help them reach their full potential.

Benefits of working at Eastleigh Borough Council include:

  • Local Government pension scheme (defined benefits scheme)
  • Up to 28 days’ annual leave (depending on local government service)
  • Flexible working scheme
  • Subsidised train travel
  • Excellent working environment
  • Support for continuous professional development
  • Good work/life balance
  • Payment of professional or registration fees where these are required

For an informal discussion, please contact Andy Grandfield, Lead Specialist Housing and Development, on 023 8068 8267.
