About the job
Hounslow is the West London borough with cranes on the skyline, where development is happening, and the challenges and opportunities for planners are immense. Hounslow is an exciting borough to work in right now. We have two Opportunity Areas, where we are working with the Mayor to maximise creation of new homes, with innovative mixed use with commercial and industrial uses to generate jobs. We have high housing targets to achieve, new schools to place children in and need to create opportunities for employers who want to locate in our well-located borough. Creative and digital media are creating a hub around the Sky TV campus and Chiswick Business Park in the east, and cargo and logistics uses support Heathrow Airport in the west. As neighbours of Heathrow we need to plan for development around the airport, as this forms part of the Heathrow Opportunity Area.
A Principal Planner is needed for the new Opportunity Areas and Growth team. You will lead on the preparation of site reviews in the 2 Opportunity Areas, lead on negotiations with developers on major and complex sites, and ensure that the public realm is enhanced through use of planning powers and CIL. As well as being a planning case officer for major sites, in this exciting new post you will lead on the delivery of the schemes post approval, such as the new stadium for Brentford Football Club, and the delivery of 900 new homes and regeneration of the town centre and waterfront on Brentford.
Ability to work to seek innovation, embrace change, and to be able to work with all sections of the residential and business community are essential qualities. You need to be able to understand the development world as well as the local community and be able to embrace innovation and change.
You will be part of the pilot team to change our ways of working and lead change to move into the new Civic Centre. Both the current and proposed Civic Centres are served by the Piccadilly Line.
