We are undergoing a transformational programme of change at the same time as creating one new council, named Somerset West & Taunton, which will cover the area currently administered by Taunton Deane Borough Council and West Somerset Council. With this change comes the unique opportunity to wholeheartedly transform our ways of working and we are recruiting to a new team that will help us move from a traditional service-based structure to a borderless and flexible way of working that is fundamentally aligned to our priorities of people, place and prosperity.

We need an experienced professional to lead on our ambitions around economic prosperity and to maximise on exciting opportunities within our Districts, which includes the exceptional natural environment including Exmoor National Park, the Quantock Hills and Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; our recent Garden Town status award; the innovative new Nexus25 strategic employment site and the progression of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point.  Furthermore, our area plays a key role in the strong partnership of authorities and Local Enterprise Partnership, driving the Heart of the South West Productivity Strategy aiming to double the size of the economy over the next 20 years.  We seek a professional with the expertise, skills and desire to shape and influence our strategic direction, provide specialist economic advice and expertise across the council, business and partners and to lead a team of specialists and case managers in delivering these ambitions.

This is a critical role for us. Working as part of a leadership team of three lead specialists, you will collectively lead, align and mobilise our resources to deliver our ambitions on People, Place and Prosperity.  As our lead Prosperity expert, you will work closely with our Strategy function in helping prepare a Prosperity Strategy, deploy your expert knowledge and subject matter expertise and promote our districts as being “open for business”.  You will provide expertise and leadership for a range of officers to promote vitality in our towns, rural and coastal settlements; support growth and prosperity of existing key sectors and promising new sectors; help facilitate increased skills and productivity in the locality; and support and grow innovation and collaboration.
