Job Details

Rushcliffe – Great Place – Great Lifestyle – Great Sport

Working from new offices located in West Bridgford (the main built-up area of the Borough, located south of Nottingham city centre) living and working here with some of the major sporting attractions in the region is hard to beat!

Much of the Borough is rural with a rich mix of towns and villages but it is also home to Nottingham Forest, Trent Bridge Cricket ground, Holme Pierrepont National Water Sports Centre and Nottingham Rugby Club. The Council itself is forward-thinking and innovative, recently winning the coveted ‘Entrepreneurial Council of the Year’ award (Local Government Chronical) and ‘Best Commercial Council’ (Municipal Journal). These factors guarantee its reputation as a great place to live and work.

The Borough is experiencing a fast pace of growth with an exciting programme of housing and commercial development, offering interest and a highly varied workload to any planners looking for their next challenge.

Well connected?

West Bridgford is well-connected to Nottingham City and areas beyond, including good train services and road links to the rest of the East Midlands, London, East Midlands Airport and East Midlands Gateway, which is subject of significant ongoing expansion.   The Council offices are close to regular bus and tram links in to the city but also offer employees plenty of free on-site parking.

The opportunity

With a modern, spacious office, we offer a flexible working environment for a Principal Planning Officer within development management.

You will be joining a team of 18 staff dealing with all aspects of the development management process in a supportive and socially interactive environment. The Council promotes staff development and provides appropriate training at all levels.

The Council’s Corporate Priorities are:

•Supporting economic growth to ensure a sustainable, prosperous and thriving local economy

•Maintaining and enhancing our residents’ quality of life

•Transforming the Council to enable the delivery of efficient high quality services

The Planning & Growth Service plays an important role in addressing these priorities.

As a key member of the team, you will be responsible to the Planning and Growth Manager and be required to process planning and related applications and to advise on Development Management matters, including taking a lead role in the preparation and presentation of items at Planning Committee. You will assist in the operation of all other aspects of the Development Management service including line management of the heritage and enforcement functions and Section 106 procedures and also the Planning and Growth Manager in the collection and allocation of funds.

We continue to look for and implement new ways to work and enhance our service delivery, such as the introduction of new technology and we are committed to the strong links and positive working relationships we hold with other stakeholders and partner organisations.

Who are we looking for?

Ideally you will be an existing Principal Planning Officer or a Senior Officer with significant relevant experience and will be a member of the RTPI or eligible for full membership.

You will have Local Government experience (or understanding of the workings of local government) in all aspects of development management.

You will need to demonstrate that you have significant experience of visiting, and dealing with, the public – face to face, on the telephone and in writing; this includes the preparation of reports, legal notices and statements, handling sensitive or controversial cases and negotiated Section 106 Agreements.

Naturally, you will have the ability to organise your own workload and work to tight deadlines and you will be required to attend evening meetings and to drive to, and visit sites within the Borough in connection with your duties.
