Your role

At an early stage you will be allocated your own caseload of planning applications, with responsibility for assessing them against the Council’s policies and guidance and formulating clear and well-reasoned recommendations. You will be expected to manage your caseload to support the Council’s aim of comfortably exceeding statutory performance targets.

You will also have a role in the discharge of planning conditions on major developments, supporting senior colleagues in assessing submitted information, maintaining records and formally discharging conditions as appropriate.  This is an increasingly prominent aspect of our work as major developments get under way across the Borough, and will give you an opportunity to be involved in some of the largest development projects in the North West.

You will be expected to commit to gaining a qualification accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute in order to progress towards Chartered membership. 

About you:

You will be an enthusiastic and capable individual who has a great aptitude and attitude. You will be a self-starter, highly motivated and enthusiastic about development, with a passion to deliver an effective and responsive service. This role will play a key part in the delivery of the Deal for the Future and the growth of Wigan Borough.

You will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability and confidence to build positive working relationships.
