This role offers an excellent opportunity for either a skilled planning professional seeking their next career step, or a more experienced individual enticed by the scope of opportunities and challenges this role offers.

About the role

Waltham Forest is located in north-east London at the end of the Victoria Line and will be London’s first Borough of Culture in 2019.  Last year alone we granted permission for 3,000 news homes which reflects our ambitious growth agenda to deliver the Draft London Plan target of 17,940 homes over the next 10 years as part of leaving a legacy of high quality design for future generations.

The Development Management Team is continuing to transform the service with the aim to be the best planning service in London. As part of our Service Improvement Plan we are procuring a new IT system, looking to harness digital technology to help deliver the service more efficiently and effectively and to invest in the personal development the team collectively and individually.

The role will involve working with senior politicians and mangers as well as investors in the borough in addition to consulting and negotiating with key stakeholders. The role will also require you to project manage multiple major developments across the borough and monitor the team’s income budget whilst driving improvement in processes and securing new opportunities for income generation.

About you

We are looking for a qualified planning professional, with a breadth of experience of dealing with significant major applications, high density mixed use schemes, negotiating maximum levels of affordable housing as well as high quality public realm and infrastructure. You will be skilled in working with developers and have excellent negotiation and analytical skills.

In terms of management style you will be innovative with the ability to take people with you as you drive the service forward. Ideally you will have some management experience as well as vision and leadership skills which you will use to build on the improvements achieved within the team to date. Through the use of digital technology you will be able to improve efficiency, smooth the customer journey and increase income generation to create the highest quality places for people to live and work for future generations in Waltham Forest.

As a council, we have also changed, and despite the challenges of austerity, we have seen our highest-ever levels of resident satisfaction. As funding reductions continue, Waltham Forest is creating a council for the future.
