A Local Authority in Oxfordshire is seeking a Senior Policy Planner to assist them with some key projects in relation to the Local Plan preparation.

The immediate focus of the role will involve undertaking site selection appraisal work and preparing for the submission and subsequent examination of the Local Plan. The plan accommodates significant housing growth and will be supporting Neighbourhood Plan groups in order to prepare the numerous Neighbourhood Development Plans the Council have in preparation.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Oversee, project manage and assist in the production of documents making up the Local Plan.
  • Take responsibility for topics or sections in the plan and evidence base.
  • Attend project meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare draft sections of the Local Plan and supplementary planning documents and papers and reports on them and other planning policy issues, including consultation documents for officers and Members.
  • Be the planning liaison officer for one or more of the neighbourhood plans and work with our neighbouring authorities on cross-boundary issues.
  • Prepare and present evidence supporting the Council's case at the Examination.
  • Provide advice on and assistance to town and parish councils preparing or wishing to prepare Neighbourhood Development Plans.
  • Assist in the supervision of the work of junior planning or technical officers.
  • Assist in other aspects of the team's work, including input into county and other cross-authority planning arrangements, management of the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, nature conservation and transportation matters.
  • Support Development Management colleagues in interpreting policy for planning applications.


The Council are seeking a candidate who has an interest in Neighbourhood and Local Plan-making. Experience supporting a Local Plan through examination would be highly beneficial in this role. A commitment to high quality customer service is required and strong communication skills in order to liaise with a range of different individuals will be key in this role. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a Local Authority Policy team would be highly advantageous, along with being a Chartered member of the RTPI.

The Council is easily commutable from numerous location and can offer flexible working arrangements such as home working or a compressed week. This contract will run for 12 months on an hourly rate. The role is Inside IR35 and the rate is negotiable dependent on the candidate's experience.
