The opportunity

With a Modern public sector ‘hub’ offices based in the historic market town of Shepton Mallet, we offer a flexible working environment for remote (home) working for part of the week with the opportunity to gain great experience in a wide range of planning work. From rural developments and new uses for key historic buildings up to town centre regeneration, large urban extensions and major food, agri-tech and other commercial developments.

There is also scope for involvement in corporate projects as part of the Council’s role as a commercial developer and landlord in its own right, for example on schemes for conversion of shipping containers for new workspace’s etc.

Who are we looking for?

A qualified planner who has operated at Principal or Team Leader level within a local authority who is a member of the RTPI to manage one of two teams within the Development Management team to ensure service targets and outputs are met and be an active member of the Group Management Team. 

You will be responsible for securing the performance and quality of work produced by the team and for the motivation of individuals within the team, as well as handling casework of a complex or strategic nature. You will also have the ability to manage individual and team performance to achieve continuous improvements to service delivery.

You will need to demonstrate substantial post-qualification planning experience, with extensive experience of Development Management including complex casework and cross service working.
