We have an exciting opportunity at West Suffolk Councils to become a Planning Officer joining our team based in Bury St Edmunds and Mildenhall. In return, you will receive a competitive starting salary £24,657 - £25,463 per annum depending on qualifications/experience (potentially rising to £29,909 through annual Performance Review awards)

We are about to embark on the next milestone of our journey in becoming a Single Council by 2019 while managing growth and there has never been a more exciting time to join us and help innovate and drive that change.

Here in West Suffolk we are setting the pace nationally for transforming local government and investing in our communities and businesses. We are part of the UK economic engine and have earned a national reputation for being an organisation that gets things done and listened to by Government.

Our ideal Planning Officer:

In order to deliver our priorities, we are looking for a flexible approach to work with a ‘can do’ attitude.  You will be someone who is hardworking and confident, ideally with a relevant professional qualification and experience in Development Management. However, we would welcome applications from those with relevant experience or qualified with no experience, and the desire to become a qualified Planning Officer on a career progression basis.

Working within a political environment isn’t essential, but to have an understanding of local government is desirable, and the ability to develop strong relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders both internally and externally to make things happen is essential.

You will be expected to deal with a range of applications for planning permission and other consents, as well as dealing with pre-application enquiries and appeals.  Site visits are required in a large rural area and so the suitable candidates will need to hold a current driving licence and/or the ability to travel around West Suffolk.

What can we offer our Planning Officer?

If you have the experience and skills, and embrace the opportunities that working in such a dynamic environment brings, then we can offer you a fascinating, challenging, dynamic, supported and always interesting workplace here in West Suffolk.

In addition, our benefits package includes a generous pension scheme, flexible working arrangements, learning & development opportunities and discounts on supermarkets and high street shops, cashback on holidays, childcare vouchers, cycle to work scheme and money off household bills and much more.

For further information or an informal chat please contact Dave Beighton or Sarah Drane, Principal Planning Officers  on 01638 719470 / 719432

Closing date: 6 August 2018

Interview date: 16 August 2018
