An opportunity to help shape the future of North Norfolk

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our forward thinking and dynamic planning department here at North Norfolk District Council (NNDC). NNDC is an ambitious authority looking to realise its development aspirations and deliver growth whilst at the same time seeking to maintain the important qualities that make North Norfolk such a special and popular place to live, work and visit.

Are you an experienced planner working in the public or private sector?

Do you want to work in a diverse rural district with a challenging and busy caseload?

This is a real opportunity for candidates who are committed to delivering a high quality, customer focused service in our forward thinking planning department.

Major Projects Team:

The Major Projects team helps deliver significant housing and economic development schemes across the district. We also help support the agriculture and tourism industry and work on some of the largest renewable energy projects in the country. Your role as part of a small and friendly team would be to determine such schemes in a district where there are many competing issues including sensitive and valued landscapes and a large number of heritage assets. This is a challenging but equally rewarding role where your experience and creativity will prove invaluable in helping deliver North Norfolk’s future growth aspirations.

Development Management Team:

The Development Management team delivers a varied case load of applications including commercial schemes and small scale residential. The team deals with large volumes of cases each year so you need experience of managing and delivering a large workload efficiently, effectively and to a high standard. What makes this role both interesting and stimulating is the opportunity to determine applications affecting both sensitive landscapes and heritage assets which are a key part of North Norfolk’s character.

Planning Policy Team:

The Council is preparing a new Local Plan for the District to replace our adopted Core Strategy and Site Allocations Plans. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planning policy professional to play a lead role in the process as we prepare the draft plan for public consultation and subsequent examination. The Planning Officer post is one of five Policy Officers in the team dealing with all aspects of local plan preparation, neighbourhood planning, five-year land supply, monitoring and all other aspects of planning policy development. Some experience in environmental issues and Sustainability Appraisal would be desirable but is not essential. Critical to the role will be communicating with a range of interested parties including Members, officers, consultees, objectors and communities. The successful candidate will be a presenting officer at Working Parties, Cabinet and Board meetings and will be required to act as expert witness for the Council at the Local Plan Examination.

Why North Norfolk?

We value our employees and provide support for training and professional development. As a member of the RTPI we will also pay for your annual subscription. The Council has an active health and wellbeing group, we have many staff activities and numerous rewards schemes which help make North Norfolk such an enjoyable place to work.

The Council offices are based in Cromer which provides easy access by rail and road from the regional shopping and creative city of Norwich. Once here in North Norfolk you will experience beautiful countryside, attractive and historic market towns and villages and 45 miles of stunning coastline including an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and 6 blue flag beaches.
