Job Details
My client and I are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Urban Designer (Landscape, Architecture or related background) to help promote great design across the District!
About the role
In a nutshell, you will be taking a senior role in providing design advice, evaluation and negotiation and for a wide range of planning applications, development projects, policy documents and other design related matters.
You will be asked to:
- Provide support to, and deputise for, the Principal Urban Design Officer and Team Leader;
- represent the District at pre and post application meetings;
- assist with the preparation of urban design guidance, design policy, planning briefs and masterplans;
- assist in the procurement of consultants;
- prepare proposals for consulting and involving the public in planning matters;
- assist in the management of capital projects; and
- assist with the preparation of funding bids.
This post is open to candidates who would be willing to undertake this role on either a TEMPORARY or PERMANENT basis.
You will be a valuable player in guiding and championing better design whilst promoting & protecting the historic identity and quality of development across these urban and rural environments - playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of the District.
The Successful Candidate
Ideally, you will hold a recognised degree/post graduate qualification in urban design, planning or architecture as well proven professional experience within the urban design field. Excellent written and verbal communication, effective time management and a sound knowledge of national design policy and guidance are all essential.
Membership of a recognised professional body (RIBA, RTPI) is also desirable, but not essential, as would experience of working within a local planning authority or similar agency.
In this role, the successful candidate will also be able to work independently whilst being very much part of the team, mentoring junior members of staff.
