NHS London Healthy Urban Development Unit
Salary: £31,878 to £42,046 inclusive of HCA
The NHS London Healthy Urban Development Unit (HUDU) is a small team of town planners funded by the 32 London NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and hosted by Tower Hamlets CCG. HUDU provides advice and support to enable CCGs and other NHS organisations to engage in the town planning system at a strategic and local level and to maximise opportunities to improve health infrastructure, promote healthy lifestyles and tackle health inequalities. There is the need to ensure that investment in health infrastructure takes account of population growth, future health needs and new models of care.
HUDU has developed tools and techniques to help the NHS to respond to the planning agenda. The unit analyses many datasets, using GIS and monitors population and development trends, planning policy and developer contributions.
We are looking for a project officer to make a significant contribution to the Unit’s work programme by promoting and developing HUDU’s tools, techniques and analysis and carrying out research into various aspects of healthy urban planning. You will need to engage effectively with key partners at a strategic and local level.
You will be educated to degree level and ideally have a degree or experience in town planning or related policy field. Experience of the NHS would be an advantage, but is not essential.
You will process excellent analytical skills and have a good understanding of spatial analysis and GIS, ideally ArcGIS, with experience of designing and delivering projects, tools or databases to support analysis and policy development. You will have an eye for detail and good writing skills.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone to develop an interest in healthy urban planning and develop HUDU’s tools and techniques to help integrate health and planning in London.
