Newham is looking for an enthusiastic and highly-motivated leader with proven Development Management experience to join our dynamic Planning Service.

Reporting to the Head of Planning and Development, the job requires a high calibre Planner and manager to lead the Major Sites Planning Team. We will ensure that you enhance your Development Management experience across the entire spectrum of large scale construction project work.  You will contribute to Service planning and be responsible performance and budget management. The post holder will attend and advise Development Committees with responsibility for the editing and quality of committee reports and lead as an expert and act on behalf of the Council on matters concerning legal action and related proceedings.

This is a key role in the wider Management team and you will play an integral role in driving forward new schemes within the Borough and effectively turn our Vision into reality. You will lead, manage, and improve the development of the Service, supporting the Head of Planning & Development to deliver on the Council’s Vision.

We are looking for a team leader who is self-motivated, enthusiastic and has a strong customer focus to deliver high quality Service provision to our residents, investors and stakeholders. You should have excellent knowledge of planning legislation and planning processes and a desire to keep knowledge up to date, maintaining an excellent level of competency to deal with constantly changing legislation.

You should hold several years’ planning experience within a local authority having previously managed major planning applications and appeals. It would be preferable if you are MRTPI accredited.

The successful candidate will lead in contributing to the delivery of an efficient and effective Development Management service for the Borough, including engagement with developers and other key stakeholders in enabling the delivery of high quality developments within a robust planning policy framework.
