Service Manager –Development Management
G14 - £49,363 - £52,955

Wigan has the plan, come and help us deliver it.

Wigan is strategically placed in the heart of the North West and we have massive
growth ambitions built on effective partnership working. As a key player in the Greater
Manchester Combined Authority, we are aiming to grow our economy by 10,000 jobs,
12,000 apprentices and 10,000 new homes in the next 10 years. Combined with this,
we have a spatial plan across the whole of the combined authority which will see
further significant growth to 2035 and beyond.

Wigan is a vibrant and welcoming place that is great to live and work in. We are
a confident council that continually strives to be the very best and we have a track
record that clearly shows our ambitions. Being closely located to the major cities
of Manchester and Liverpool, the Borough offers a competitive advantage for
businesses and unrivalled access to many outstanding facilities. Whether it is
in business, sport or in other fields, success is in our DNA and we welcome those
with the same attitude, behaviours and determination to help shape our future.
Add all this to our outstanding green space that runs through the heart of the Borough,
and we believe that Wigan and the people who choose to be here have every
opportunity to share in our success.

Following a fundamental service redesign of our Economy and Environment
Directorate, we are now in a position to appoint a Service Manager to provide
leadership and direction to the newly combined teams of development management
and building control. The main focus is to ensure that Wigan has an excellent
reputation as a good place to do business, and these services are key to achieving
that aim.

We like to think of ourselves as one of the most forward thinking councils in the
country, and as such, we have ambitious plans for growth and reform. Working in
tandem with our elected members,.key stakeholder and other partners, we are
seeking a dynamic and performance driven individual for this role. You will have
an excellent track record of success in delivering effective and efficient outcomes,
whilst maximising the potential of our ambitions.

You will need to demonstrate high levels of commercial acumen along with the
experience of working constructively with partners across public and private sectors.
You must have a successful track record of working effectively within a similar or
related environmental function, but with the ability to take us to the next level.
You will put the customer at the heart of the service, have a ‘can do’ approach, and
excellent interpersonal skills. If you have the drive, skills and knowledge to deliver on
our strategic framework whilst building business opportunities around the council’s
values, we would like to hear from you.

We offer a competitive salary and a generous employee rewards package.
If you would like an informal discussion about this opportunity, then please contact
Karl Battersby, Director of Economy and Environment on 01942 489101.
