Located in beautiful north Oxfordshire, the Cherwell District includes the growing towns of Banbury and Bicester, and a large rural area. The District is planning to accommodate substantial development concentrated on the towns of Bicester and Banbury. The Council is committed to securing high quality design and ensuring that development does not compromise our 59 conservation areas and over 3,000 listed buildings.

To help us do this, we are looking for an enthusiastic and talented person to lead our Design and Conservation team. You will lead a range of projects including a programme of advice on urban design and masterplanning for a series of urban extensions and development proposals. You will also advise on a series of Conservation Area Appraisals and lead the provision of heritage and conservation advice to developers, owners of historic properties, development control officers and members.

You will be a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute with a postgraduate degree in urban design or historic conservation in addition to significant post qualification experience. You will also have good graphical, oral and written communication skills and be able to supervise a small team. Experience of working in a similar role in a local planning authority or consultancy that has specialised in masterplanning and urban design would be an advantage.
