Cheshire West and Chester Council has appointed Jenny Tunney as townscape heritage officer to lead historical regeneration in Northwich town centre.

The appointment follows the award of £870,000 for the Townscape Heritage Initiative by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The scheme will focus on repairing and refurbishing old buildings to improve the town centre’s appeal to developers and bring vacant properties back into use.

Tunney said: “This project will help to boost the offer of the traditional town centre shopping area by offering grant assistance towards the repair and restoration of historic buildings, including re-instating traditional shop fronts.”

Tunney, who is MRTPI qualified, was previously senior conservation & design officer at the council.

She gained a masters degree in environmental planning from Liverpool John Moores Univesity in 1996, preceded by a bachelors in geography from University of Portsmouth.
