Paul Skykes at IM Properties

Property developer IM Properties has appointed chartered planner Richard Sykes as planning and development manager.

Sykes, who takes up the newly-created role, joins from consultancy JLL’s Birmingham office, where he worked as a senior surveyor.

He will be responsible for sourcing and securing new strategic land opportunities as well as adding value to existing assets using his planning knowledge and experience.

Sykes said: “The property market is at an exciting stage, with momentum building across the commercial sectors and a strong sense of competition beginning to return.

“Having a planning oversight can be a real advantage when you’re working on a development project.”

Kevin Ashfield, senior development director at IM Properties, said: “Richard’s dual experience in the surveying and planning sectors of the industry is relatively unique and we feel that he can play an important role in supporting the ambitions of the business, particularly in terms of increasing our land bank.”

Sykes has a bachelors in land management and a masters in development planning – both from University of Reading. He has both chartered planner and chartered surveyor status.

IM properties has recently developed a number of commercial and industrial schemes including at the Birch Coppice business park in Warwickshire, Solihull Business Park and the Longwell Green trade park scheme in Bristol.
