St Albans Council appoints garden communities lead planner
St Albans City and District Council has appointed a new lead planner for Hemel Garden Communities.
Hemel Garden Communities is a development programme between St Albans Council, Dacorum Borough Council, Hertfordshire County Council, Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and The Crown Estate, aiming to transform Hemel Hempstead and deliver more than 11,000 new homes by 2050.
As the lead planner for Hemel Garden Communities, William Marr-Heenan will aim to advocate for high-quality, innovative and sustainable design and influence key stakeholders including Highways England, the crown estate and Hertfordshire LEP. His role also involves helping to develop major schemes at the pre-application and planning stages.
Marr-Heenan leaves his most recent role as a senior town planner at consultancy Arup where he has coordinated estate regeneration projects in Wandsworth and led a team to deliver an island plan for Jersey.
On secondment at Epping Forest District Council, Marr-Heenan also took on the role of senior planner in the council's planning policy and implementation team, contributing to the new local plan.
