Somerset County Council is expanding its economy and planning team to help it develop a ‘viable business case’ for a garden town in the county.

Plans for a garden town were included in the council’s county plan document, which was published last year. The document said that the scheme would deliver “new homes for Somerset residents and skilled professionals”.

Now the council is looking to take on a senior planning officer to develop the business case.

Paul Browning, service manager, planning policy at the council, said that the role was a new position and would take initial work carried out by the council to the next stage.
