Shepway District Council is seeking to recruit a development management team leader as the numbers of planning applications rise in the area.

The authority in Kent covers a district of 140 square miles and takes in Romney Marsh, coastal towns such as Folkestone and Hythe and several sites earmarked for housing.

Head of planning Chris Lewis told Planning: “We are very keen to encourage more housing development to provide jobs and are ambitious to promote sustainable development.”

He said the number of planning applications had picked up, creating more work, and the authority had recently adopted its local plan.

Sites for housing included a large belt of former Ministry of Defence land that is slated for 1,200 new homes.
