A raft of regeneration initiatives has prompted Great Yarmouth Borough Council to embark on a recruitment drive for more planners.

The Norfolk authority is seeking to hire several strategic planning assistants on one year fixed term contracts.

According to the council, the new positions have been created in response to “an ambitious programme of regeneration” in the town, specifically around an enterprise zone aimed at attracting offshore energy companies.

The council said that the roles would also involve working with the newly created Great Yarmouth Development Company.

The company was formed by the district council and Norfolk County Council in order to allow the authorities to pool resources and unlock economic development in the town.

The council added that Great Yarmouth has recently submitted its local plan to the Planning Inspectorate and that the strategic planning assistants would contribute to site-specific documents aimed at supporting the local plan.
