Growing momentum in the renewable energy sector has prompted a planning team to expand by appointing a new development management officer.

Simon Johnson joins the planning team at outsourcing company Cofely GDF Suez from East Riding of Yorkshire Council and will work with North East Lincolnshire Council.

The partnership between Cofely GDF Suez and North East Lincolnshire Council started in 2010 and is a 12-year partnership to deliver services including planning.

Cofely GDF Suez planning and building control manager Mark Cawood told Planning: “The council is taking forward a local plan focussed on growth.

“This is associated with positive signs in many of its key employment sectors, but in particular renewables industries – we’re well placed for quick access to North Sea wind farms. We’re busy.

“The planning service is central to the partnership’s development and growth ambitions. Simon is responsible for preparing planning policy documents.

“He will also help in the development of schemes, projects and strategies associated with regeneration and economic growth.”
