Council officesA rural borough in the East Midlands says it has become a magnet for housebuilders keen to build homes on the edge of its boundary.

Melton Borough Council applications and advice manager Jennifer Wallis told Planning: “We have been assailed by large housing plans, ranging from 200 to 1,000 homes.

“We don't have a [five year] land supply or local plan and cannot stop applications coming forward, but we have to make sure there's the infrastructure to support any growth that happens.”

The council is looking to recruit a planner or senior planner to help firm up a new local plan and manage significant development pressures.
