PINS expands non-salaried inspector base

A push to improve service delivery has led to the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) to seek to further boost its number of non-salaried inspectors. 

PINS is initiating a raft of changes to improve its performance in the wake of the Rosewell review into the planning appeal process. These include both procedural and structural changes to help speed up appeals. 

The body said that, currently, over 75 non-salaried inspectors are contracted with it, providing additional capacity to decide approximately 10 per cent of the planning appeals it receives annually. It is now seeking to take on an additional 30.
