Consultancy Nexus Planning has appointed a director of infrastructure planning to lead its newly launched national infrastructure planning team.

Chartered town planner and environmental lawyer Andrew Walters has taken on the new role, joining Nexus Planning from real estate consultancy GL Hearn where he was national head of infrastructure planning and a non-executive director.

According to Nexus, Walters is an industry lead on consent management for large-scale developments projects, including road, rail, bridge, airport expansion, town centre renewal, area regeneration, low carbon energy and waste projects.

He is a member of the government’s committee on radioactive waste management and this year was also appointed a board member of the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.

Walters said: “I’ll be seeking to bring key insights into energy and transport in a post-pandemic world. I plan to implement a strategy centred on the route towards a green and just recovery from the pandemic, by raising questions on how far our municipal authorities can go in promotion of radical thinking in urban policy.”
