A council’s lack of a five year housing land supply has promoted it to look to expand its development management team after it was ‘inundated’ with planning applications.

Melton Borough Council applications and advice manager Jennifer Wallis told Planning: “Rising demand for housing has led to increased workload, meaning we have to expand our service.

“We have no five-year land supply so are inundated by development proposals – anything from single plots and schemes for 25 to 50 homes on the edges of villages to projects for 500 houses.”

The market town in north-east Leicestershire wants to recruit a planning officer to take the development management team up to four planning staff.
