Rochester riversideMedway Council has recruited a new senior planning policy officer to help the authority deal with large-scale regeneration projects.

Prem Velayutham-Smith joined from Banstead and Reigate Council and is now part of a policy team that numbers six chartered town planners.

Planning manager for policy Catherine Smith told Planning: “There are lots of regeneration and waterfront projects going on in the Thames gateway.

“Prem will be helping to deal with these and the preparation of a local plan for Medway to provide a framework for the area’s growth over the next 20 years.”

One recent project handled by the council was for a mixed-use development including up to 1,400 homes along the Rochester riverside (pictured).
