Nigel Harris of KnightsChartered planner Nigel Harris has joined professional services business Knights as a partner.

Harris joins the company’s Derby office from consultancy Enigma Planning, where he was sole director, but will work on projects across the UK

His new role is part of a drive by Knights to increase its non-legal staff numbers, and brings the total headcount in the planning team to 17.

Harris said he was looking forward to tackling some of the big planning issues of the day.

He said:  “Town planning has always been a hot topic, but the current shortage of affordable housing is definitely an issue that is top of the town planning agenda.

“This goes hand in hand with another key topic; building on greenfield sites. Whilst the need to build more housing schemes is rocketing, local communities understandably want to defend green spaces in their area.”

Before setting up Enigma Planning, he worked at consultancy Pegasus Planning as a director and housebuilder Wilson Bowden as planning director.

He also worked as a development control manager at Harborough District Council.

Harris has a bachelor’s degree in urban planning studies from the former Polytechnic of Central London.
