Islington Council is looking to recruit a principal planner to deal with growing numbers of office-to-residential applications.

The post holder will help the north London borough take on a rapid growth in housing and employment activity, said team leader for major applications Sarah Ricketts.

“As well as major applications the new planner will deal with office-to-residential applications of which we are seeing more,” she told Planning.

“Residential values are high and we are losing office premises, which affects the amount of employment floor space levels in the borough and we can't secure affordable housing contributions.

“We are a very dense borough with limited sites available. These sites are complex because of that density and the scarcity of site resources.

“We want to improve the service we provide, which is about have officers that take on a site and look after it in terms of future applications and amendments.”
