Tom Carpen, infrastructure and energy planning associate at consultancy Barton Willmore, has been appointed to the National Infrastructure Planning Association (NIPA) board.

NIPA was established in November 2010 with the aim of bringing together individuals and organisations involved in the planning and authorisation of major infrastructure projects. Its principal focus is the planning and authorisation regime for nationally significant infrastructure projects introduced by the Planning Act 2008.

Carpen joined Barton Willmore in 2017. He previously worked at the Planning Inspectorate as an infrastructure planning lead.

He said: “NIPA plays a vital role in ensuring that as an industry we continuously improve the way we deliver nationally significant infrastructure projects both for those promoting them and those affected by them in the UK.

"NIPA’s strength lies in its experience across the spectrum of infrastructure sectors, including energy, transport and water, and with a membership drawn from a variety of professional disciplines, we are a genuinely collaborative voice for infrastructure planning in the UK.”
