East Northamptonshire Council is looking to expand and strengthen its planning team to deal with an increasing number of planning applications coming forward.

It is currently recruiting for two development management posts: a newly created senior planning officer position, as well as a planning officer.

David Reed, (above) head of planning services, told Planning that the senior planning officer position is a new post aimed at strengthening the existing planning team because it is seeing an increase in applications.

Reed said the increasing number of applications is across multiple sectors, including residential, commercial, retail, and renewables, and that the growth is related to the economic recovery and an increase in development activity.

He said: “This last six or nine months we have seen an increase in development activity, and a lot of developers have been converting, for example, outline planning applications into detailed applications.

“Consents we have had for a while are now being implemented and developers are coming forward with detailed proposals and actually starting work on site.”
