A Midlands planning consultancy is recruiting on the back of an upswing in residential work stimulated by new national planning policy and guidance.

Nottingham-based consultancy, Antony Aspbury Associates, is looking to recruit a new town planner to cover work across the East Midlands and further afield.

Mike Downes, who co-directs the practice with Tony Aspbury, told Planning: “We work with a number of housbuilders – national, regional and individual. The market has picked up considerably.

“The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and the National Planning Practice Guidance (NPPG) have had quite big implications in terms of promoting housing growth. Recent appeal cases seem to be supporting developers coming forward.

“That said, there are other people with smaller projects deciding this could be the time to make the plunge with planning, and this has led to more retail and commercial projects filtering through.”
