The London Borough of Hounslow has created a new position in order to help it deliver over 6,000 homes in two of the London mayor’s ‘housing zones’ which are intended to accelerate residential development.

Hounslow decided it needed a housing zones delivery manager after the mayor designated a second housing zone in the borough in the spring in order to unlock it for housing, according to Alan Hesketh, the council's head of regeneration, spatial planning, business services and environmental strategy.

“Our first housing zone in Hounslow town centre was mainly delivered on council sites so was led by our property department; the second is in Feltham and will involve either acquiring sites or helping landowners to deliver sites,” he said.

The housing zones delivery manager will work with the planning department on producing planning briefs and allocations in the local development framework and also with other staff working on the project in the property, regeneration and housing departments.
