The London Borough of Havering has restructured its planning team to help deliver “significant” new planning capacity.

The council has created three new teams: strategic development, development management and spatial planning.

The authority said that the restructure “will enable the team to deliver a coordinated and responsive service to its customers, putting place-making at the very heart of its activity.”

The council added that work is already underway in the area to create more than 7,000 new homes across three joint venture programmes in the borough, to be delivered over the next 10 to 15 years, of which 65 per cent will be available for social/affordable rent.

Assistant director of planning, Helen Oakerbee, said “The restructure results in a significant increase in the capacity of the team.”
